Edge Beading

I'm bored bored bored bored bored bored bored...

And I've only done about 40cm of it.

Not to worry... The bra is in the wash, and I shall be ready to get working on it tomorrow, by way of distraction. I've got to cut off the existing side straps and attach the ones I've made in interfacing. Then I'm going to cover it, which is a pretty major job, because I have to make it neat enough. I won't be covering the cups with loads of extra decoration, because the essence of this costume is that it's plain apart from the flowers. That means I have to go against my natural instinct to bodge, and actually do a proper job.

I think I'll be following Shushanna's guidelines, where you use a single piece of fabric for each cup, and dart to create the shaping. The rugby-ball shape plus rectangle to go on the upper edge just doesn't work for me, nor for the shape of bra that I'm working with.

I think I'm going to have tons of the turquoise lycra left over. I bought it before I had really thought about what I was going to do with it, so I just went for 4 metres, for safety. I know now that I can make the mermaid skirt and bra and accessories with just 2 metres. I will have to decide whether to keep the leftover fabric, and make myself a baladi dress out of it some time, or ditch it by offering it to any takers. If anyone is interested in about 2 metres of plain shiny turquoise lycra, nice weight, let me know- it might help me decide.

I've also been planning the next project! The Hyacinth Lace costume. I got the lace, and now that I know what it's like I've got a clearer idea of what I can do with it. So I've been doodling and mulling, and making notes, in readiness.

But for now, I'm going to make myself do a bit more edge-beading, before bed, to keep going.

I'll trade your turquoise lycra for my tomato red or bright pink lycra. I have several meters of each lying around, and I already used part of it for costuming. It seems I'm more motivated to use fabric from my stash if I haven't used it on another project yet, so there you go.

oh, and it would be a good opportunity for me to slip you sequins and stuff that I've had for ages but never used. ;-)

It's a deal! I'm ok for pink but I could use the red! I'll send you a package when I've finished covering the bra. I'm sure I've got your address in the Secret Habibi files ;-)

yay! *excited* I couldn't find your address in my lj/gmail, could you send it to me? It will probably take until the start of October for me to pack everything up, I'll let you know when I'm sending it out.
