Adding crystals

I started glueing the crystals onto the bra and the skirt.

I think the bra is done, decoration-wise. It needs lining and hooks, which I can probably get done at the end of the weekend. But for now I'm leaving the glue to set well, before I faff about with it any more.

As for the skirt, I've done the left hip, and I'll be doing the right hip in a similar way, but I can't do it until the glue on the left side has set well enough that I feel happy turning the thing around, and the left side is underneath and being brushed around.

And a bit of a close-up, because it shows how lovely the flowers are:

And I thought I would share how I'm doing the glueing, because it took a while for me to work out a system that allowed me to get some speed up and I might forget it when I start using glue-on crystals again: I've got a bit of paper where I put a few crystals at a time, maybe 10-20 of them, flat side up. I've got a second bit of paper on which I put a small dollop of glue, about the size of a blueberry. I've also got a kirby grip. I dip the round end of the kirby grip in the glue (Gem-tac, since you ask), and then place the kirby grip on the flat back of the crystal. This allows me to pick up the crystal, then move it to where I want to place it. I can then hold the kirby grip at about 45° and slide the kirby grip away, holding the crystal in place with my left index finger. Of course, it doesn't always work that smoothly! And the glue accumulates on the kirby grip like whoa, and it gets all over your fingers, but broadly it works!

I'm much more of an Owl than a Lark, and I'm never terribly productive first thing in the morning. But I can work fine late at night!

OOOOOOOOH. I love it! The colours, flowers (I love costumes with flowers!), the sparkle... well done!

I'm finding the description or the crystal glueing intriguing - I may have to go get a kirby grip and see if I can work it out!

I'm using a kirby grip by default of anything more stick-like. If I was the sort of person who did proper cooking, I'd have cocktail sticks lying about handy, or maybe matches.

WAH I can't see the pictures for some reason! Hopefully my browser will sort itself out later and I'll get to see them soon!

I don't know what happened there, but the original photos disappeared out of my Scrapbook gallery.

However, I've reinstated them and edited to reflect the new urls.

Kirby grip?

I had to look that up.. in the States, it's a bobby pin, and I'm still not "getting" how you picked up the crystal with it.

But, oh my, how lovely are those colors! I can't wait to see it on you.

Re: Kirby grip?
Once the glue is on the rounded end of the bobby pin, you just have to dab it on the flat back of the rhinestone, and the glue holds it, so you can pick it up easily.

Re: Kirby grip?

Ah, now I see! I had somehow imagined using the other end as a tweezer.
