Turkish!

I had a bit of time to myself yesterday afternoon, and I spent it watching the Turkish dance DVDs (actually 1 DVD, 1 VCD) that I bought before Christmas.

The VCD with four dancers who don't seem to be big name dancers was ok, nothing on there that I was particularly taken with, and I only skimmed it.

But the DVD I'd bought was of Asena, and (despite myself!) I found myself falling for her, like a big fally thing! Her technique is a bit rough around the edges (which I kind of like, to be honest!), and of course she suffers from the whole handicap of Not Being Egyptian Enough for me, but I think she's got a nice way of putting her dances together and I just *loved* her attitude!

So I have been & gone & ordered a Didem DVD, in this new spirit of pro-Turkishness!

Nothing will ever replace Egyptian in my heart, but I'm not a Hater! I can love Turkish when it's done well!

Yay! I think that too often, sloppy Westerners use the phony excuse term "I dance Turkish style" when what they should be saying is "I'm too lazy to work on my technique", and that's not Turkish at all. Good Turkish style takes strength, especially with all the level changes.
