The Ballet

I didn't get the time to tell you about the Birthday Ballet Outing, before Christmas.

It started well, as M decided that, since it was my birthday, I needed Cake. So she brought me a delicious chocolate cupcake as well as pink sparkling wine.

The ballet was beautiful. I love that Matthew Bourne combines classical and contemporary ballet. I love how important the look of the whole thing is. I love his humour (Aurora's nanny was *totally* Dame Maggie Smith!) and how he finds ways to turn the stories you know into something a bit different.

BUT... both M & I have been going to watch Bourne's new ballets for quite some time, and we both felt that this was a bit light, not one of his finest work. Lovely to watch but not really much in the way of brain-food. We've come to expect more of him. I am well aware that a person can't always produce artistic work that consistently gets better and better, each and every time, guaranteed. This one was vaguely unsatisfying, it left me wanting more, and not in the good way!

I'll still go watch the next one, though.

Afterwards, M & I went for Thai food and gossip!
