The sad remains of Shimmy in the City

I was very sad to hear about the cancellation of SITC, and I'm not sure yet what I want to do about that weekend. I do appreciate the trouble Charlotte & Khaled are going to to provide *something* to everyone who had signed up. And I appreciate that this is hurting a lot more people than just them.

It's quite a long way to go for a load of workshops with teachers I wouldn't otherwise go to. But it seems a kick in the teeth not to support Charlotte & Khaled when they've had such a blow, and they're doing their very best to make something out of the little they have available to them. And it's free, so the travel is the *only* expense.

I think I'm going to try and get to the Saturday morning workshop with Khaled- the topic intrigues me and I like his workshops. He inevitably goes into performance mode, which I know some students don't like, but I don't mind and I know I can still learn by watching what he does.

I'm not so sure about going to the Tito workshop- it's a drum solo, and they normally bore me rigid. But it's Baladi with drum solo. I really don't know... And Saturdays are normally Gentleman Friend Days. Doing stuff in the morning is ok, but I'd like to spend the afternoon and evening with him. So I definitely won't be going to the hafla. Besides, I'm not sure I could cope with the horror that is the British Women Bellydancers' Reaction to Male Bellydancers Performing- I couldn't handle the fangirling! And I won't be doing the Sunday Khazafy Mowashahat workshop, as I'm quite Reda'ed out.

At least they are offering something for those who would be travelling to London to do the whole weekend.

Oh I know! It's really good of them to do this.

But nevertheless it's still replacing the two workshops that I *really* wanted to take with workshops that I'm far less enthusiastic about. So while I do want to be supportive and appreciative, in my heart I'm still mourning the fact that Aziza can't get here.

I really want to know more MORE MOOAAAR about this whole shenanigans. Like, is it the British government's fault or the Egyptian government's? I feel very sorry for everyone but I am also fascinated by it.
