Pretty little gold padlocks [Feb. 29th, 2008|10:09 am]

I'm liking the new icon that shows that a post is filtered. I'm also liking that I can see what filters I was using.

I'm particularly liking that other people can't!

Anyone for a Rant? [Jan. 26th, 2008|12:20 am]
[Tags|, ]

I was just revisiting my custom groups/filters. If you can see my last post: Taking one's responsibilities seriously, then you're already on my ranting list. If you can't see it, and you would like to, and you accept the risk that there may be swearing in such posts, and you understand that there is absolutely no point in trying to reason with me like a sensible mature adult in those threads, then let me know...

The bitching that I offload onto Private posts is *so* therapeutic!

I have a wordcloud from my website!

Shame it's a bit ickle

Isn't that fab? I want it on a t-shirt now - http://www.snapshirts.com do it.

I have to confess I wanted it for my LJ, but it didn't seem to read the *whole* of my LJ and the words didn't seem right, so I went for my own site.

LJ book playing silly buggers again [Feb. 8th, 2007|07:07 pm]

It seems to have lost 2007 as an option. It was there earlier this year, because I saved my LJ on 25th January 2007, but it's gone.

Why do I blog? [Jun. 18th, 2006|10:32 pm]
[Tags|]

I read other people's posts and I wonder sometimes what motivates them to post... So I asked the question of myself.

I decided from the outset that this would be a blog purely for dance matters. This is a record of my involvement in Dance. Principally the Oriental dance, but encompassing my love of the terpsichorean art more generally. It's a way of keeping track of what I've done and what I’d like to do, of what I see and how it affects me, of working out what I feel about aspects of dance, and teaching, about other dancers & teachers, about the "scene".

But all of that I could do in a paper diary, or I could just post here & keep everything locked as private. So there's clearly an element of wanting others to read what I write here. When I first started this LJ I didn't expect much interaction, and it felt like talking out loud in a nearly empty space. Now I'm talking with a group of friends, specific people, not just the GP. I think that affects how I post - I ask questions, I raise matters that I feel certain people might respond to. I hate to say it, but this LJ is (and I hate to use such a ghastly word- sorry!) interactive.

Which is a bit weird, because I’d generally have said I prefer to keep my opinions to myself, especially the controversial ones. I don’t publicise this journal, or if I do, it’s only on a very personal level. There’s an invisible link to it from my website, but frankly I doubt anyone’s actually found it. I don’t like confrontation and arguments. I hate flame wars. So I think I must be a closet exhibitionist, if that’s not a contradiction in terms.

It’s my LJ birthday coming up. On Friday I think (the 23rd, anyway) this blog will be a whole year old. I would never have thought a) that I could sustain a dance journal this long and b) that I could get this addicted to LJ.
