Work on the Turquoise bra begins

I did some more skirt beading, and realised that my calculation of how fast I can go is woefully inadequate. Nevertheless, having mentally committed to doing the full hem, I'm going to stick with it. It will take ages, but I'm not going to wimp out now.

So the rule is going to be, whatever bit of sewing I'm going to do, I'll do some edge-beading before I start it!

Anyway, I got started on the bra today, hooray!

Firstly I cut off all the extraneous bits, leaving enough of the side strap to help attach the new one.

You'll see that the cups are all a bit mangled. That's because the outer covering of the bra is stretchy and while it's fine once you've got a couple of knockers inside it, when it's empty the covering retracts and the foam layer doesn't. So I did a bit of sorting later on.

Next, I attached the side straps. It's a bit tricky because the sewing machine doesn't work with the underwire, so I got as near as I could, and hand-sewed the strap on that part of the cup.

Then  I sorted out the puckering of the outer cover, by slitting the fabric and tacking it in place. It may look a bit silly here, but it's all being covered and I just wanted the cups to lie in the right shape.

Then the really tricky stuff. Actually covering the thing. First the left cup. I'd been hoping to use Shushanna's single dart under the bust method. But it wasn't enough, so I had to go for pleats. I hadn't wanted to do this, because the more bits of faffing I did, the more I'd have to match on the other side, but it seemed the only way to go.

I summoned up all my patience and determination, and started on the second cup.

And actually, I'm quietly impressed with myself, because I think I did an ok job on the matching. It isn't exact and perfect, but it's pretty close and it should work. It's all pinned now, ready to sew in place.

After I've done a bit more edge-beading on the skirt!

The colour's not showing true on my screen- it looks like a sky blue, instead of the proper turquoise that it is in real life.

My turquoise lycra is like that, but not perhaps as shiny. *takes inspiration notes for bra coverage*
