I am blaming Bintblue

I've got a dance crush on Howa Ya Howa. It's going to be my new Work On It piece. I may well be using it at Celebrating Dance. It's all bintblue's fault for enquiring about the lyrics on bhuz.

Which then raises the question, what costume? And for a variety of reasons, concerning mostly wanting to wear bright shiny new, rather than old and seen before, and needing a mandeel, because of it being mentioned in the lyrics, it's looking like the White Baladi.

Which is all fine and dandy, because it has had a successful First Outing, and it works well and looks good, and it would be Just Right for Howa Ya Howa.

And the song reminds me of a lovely fun Sa'aidi Stick choreography that Yasmina taught at a workshop, a few years ago.

It seems the White Baladi should have LOTS of outings, for it is so lovely.

This made me LAUGH OUT LOUD. I have been working with Fadel Shaker's version and a sweet, 70s hyper cheesy instrumental version I have, as it is a serious contender for a winter class choreography. When you told me there was a version on Yasmina's CD, I gave it a listen, and just spent my entire Sunday ("day off"...ha!) choreographing an adorable if I do say so myself mixed Saiidi/Oriental* dance to it. Not sure this version will be the performing one, but it is going to be used in my classes soon as a practice piece to pull from, and I blame YOU!

Great minds...!

*ie, my idea of fusion ;)

Oh I love that song both Fadls version and the one on Yasminas CD. I'll look forward to seeing you dance to that.
