Ranya Renee

Oh damn! She's coming back to the UK and I don't know if I can justify spending hideous amounts of money on a workshop with her again. I spent £99 on a 4 hour workshop (plus £15 getting there) last time, and it's a lot of money to pay out. I know she's worth it, but December & January are expensive months...

Information, little as it is right now, is here:

Just after Christmas and on a weekday. Good luck with that. I'd really like to take a class with her but it's just not practical for me.

Yes, Heather hasn't quite cottoned on the the fact that most of us can only afford these things because we have DAY JOBS IN THE WEEK

Who's Heather, is this someone who's agreed to organise the Ranya workshop? Someone whose mailing list I ought to be on?

That's insanity! It might work here (MIGHT) because a lot of companies close down for the two weeks after Christmas, but even then, people are invariably on family holidays...

What kind of idiot puts a workshop on a weekday? Is it actually during the day, or at night?
Nov. 24th, 2011 10:16 pm (UTC)
Well last time, it was only because she was flying from Athens after one teaching weekend, back to the States for another teaching weekend, via London, and she was staying with Anne White of Planet Egypt, for a couple of days. So it was that, or no workshops at all.

The upside of being mostly unemployed and man-free/child-free is that I do have time to do stuff on a weekday; the downside is that I'm too poor to do it!

And yes it was during the day.

Well...me. :) I sponsored Ranya Renee in my town and we did weeknight workshops (well, one Friday night as well). It was that or nothing as I snagged her between other engagements in nearby cities. As it turned out in the end I could have actually done a weekend day thing, and would have, but it would have meant scheduling against an event that was celebrating its 30th anniversary. Not something I was comfortable doing!

So...sometimes you do what you have to do. People who couldn't make it did without, people who could do it during the week were pleased. It was very successful, luckily.

Weeknight is one thing...weekday is something else again. :)

I'm guessing that you're in a pretty large market, though? That makes a difference, too. Only one person around here gets away with sponsoring weekday workshops, but those are part of larger events, so I'm not sure that counts.

True that! And yes, you're right, many belly dancers in my town and even more in surrounding areas. But even here week*day* would have been quite limiting.

Ooooh. Bugger. Taking a class with her would fit right into my 2012 training goals....

Pull a sickie? I can do very good tragic coughing and croaky voice.

So can I.

I've just done something madder than that though....

WHAT DID YOU DO??????????????
Nov. 24th, 2011 10:13 pm (UTC)
I totally didn't email her about a private workshop in Reading. No I totally did not.

She is a gifted private lesson teacher--my time with her was personal and wonderful and worth every hard earned penny!

Ooh bugger again. Wada and hipnotic weekend. But training with her is part of our goal.

Bugger, bugger, bugger.

It might require me to go and examine my bank account more closely OR sell loads this weekend!!

Clearly you have no option but to fly to NZ in June, where the eight hours of workshops AND a hafla workshops are a low, low 150 quid or thereabouts...

It IS a lot of money at this time of year.

I'm going to jump in on this one - due to Misspotsitt getting *in there* Ranya is happy to come to Reading for a workshop. MAYBE Tuesday 24th, probably Wednesday 25th....anyone up for it? Hopefully evening, 7-9pm or maybe 8-10pm? Nothing is finalised yet, it's all just at chatting stage, but she's up for it..... ideally she wants no more than 6 people in order to be able to give fully focused feedback.......and there are three of us here in Reading champing at the bit....PM me, Misspotsitt or Ellariaal for likely costs if you're interested.
Nov. 24th, 2011 10:19 pm (UTC)
I'd LOVE to do it (Reading is nearer than London) but I can't do the Tuesday). PMing all of you, so you can't claim you've not heard from me!!!
Nov. 24th, 2011 10:38 pm (UTC)
As if we'd claim not to hear from you? :)
