A different costume bag

I wanted to try the zip thing again. I decided that the square box style that I tried before was too taxing to my feeble zip skills and lack of proper zip foot on my sewing machine. It was the corners that were particularly problemmatical, so I figured a rounded shape would work better. So this one is sort of oval/rugby ball shaped, with a zip opening at the top, and a gusset at the bottom, to make sure the bag can hold a reasonable amount.

The fabric is one that I'd been wanting to buy for a while, because it's cute. But it was too expensive, even in the remnants pile (it really is a very expensive fabric shop), until my last expedition there, where I saw the price had come down far enough for me to feel justified in buying it.

I'm now off to make a smaller bag for the accessories.

ETA - All finished now:

Hooray! This is the first of my Make Something Every Month things that I've finished!

Would it be easier for you to sew the zipper on a two strips of fabric and then use it for a bag? I've done that with a few smaller things.

That's pretty similar to the technique I was using with this one. I.e. sewing the zip first.

I cut the two oval pieces, and sewed the zip to the top sections of each, then I sewed the gusset into the lower half, to join the two halves together in a bag shape.

Next time, I'm going to try your way.
