Yasmina Love

I loved the workshops. You get so much material from Yasmina, and it's all Brilliant Stuff. There's nothing that's not new/challenging/exciting/fun. And this Summer, I'm determined to make proper use of the workshops I'm doing. This means writing up my notes, typing them up properly, actually practising some of the work we did today. (Chainé turns? In my tiny wee flat? I can but try!)

Things I need to work on:
- Those pesky chainé turns (focus, focus, focus)
- Balance (core core core... You've heard this all before)

Things I learned and loved:
- Raqia Tightrope Travelling Circles
- Retreating Pony Steps - these are definitely going straight into next term's choreography!
- "Abandoned" spins

Tomorrow it's Diva Revival (Steps of the Stars, for today's dancer) and a choreography. This is where Yasmina will realise she's had a lucky escape from me being in the Spirit of Egypt performance group. I will try to think of the choreo as being a series of Combinations, because I am rubbish at actually learning choreographies.

Retreating pony steps? You've got my curiousity up now. Sounds like you are having a blast!

Kind of hard to explain, but yeah, pony steps, going backwards. Imagine miming a pony clip-clopping. Then forget the imaginary reins, and focus on what your feet are doing. It's kind of *that*!

Actually, thinking about it, there's no reason why they shouldn't go forwards too. I'm all in favour of making your moves versatile.

It depends what you want to develop, of course!

Her strengths are:
- *very* analytical technique, especially steps of the Stars, especially the Golden Age dancers.
- choreographies- her choreos are packed with beautiful and well-chosen technique.
- interpretation of lyrics, whether that's with reference to a specific song (eg Oum Kalsoum) or generally useful words & phrases from songs
- Egyptian Oriental styling
