The capturing part of the process is a doddle. The gizmo works a treat. No problems there.

The dvd creation part is not working out as easily as I thought. The software that came with the gadget works just fine until you actually want to burn the dvd, then it's just *impossible*. There isn't an actual "burn dvd" button! There are a couple more programmes included in the bundle, but one doesn't include any facility for editing, or decent chaptering, and the other one is too complicated for words.

So I'm having to find other ways of doing the editing and burning.

My first thought was Windows MovieMaker, because I've already got it. But MM is pernickety about what file formats it will accept, and apparently the code that the capture software uses isn't one of them. So that's out.

I've downloaded a whole load of conversion/editing/dvd creation programmes. Between them, DAMMIT, I should be able to work out a way of doing this. I'm an intelligent person. Really I am.

I recently made a dvd out of various clips of all different formats (even the weird ones melanie sends you) from some free software, it was slow but the quality was good. Unfortunately its on my home computer and i cna't remember the name but I can look it up tonight . .

I really like the free version of Any Video Converter. I think you need the paid version to burn DVDs, but the free one will put your footage into any conceivable format for uploading or importing to MM. And it's simple--I don't do complicated!

It's *seriously* not working for me. It seems to start the conversion process, and I check it and it's about 96% done, then the next time I look it's back to 1.4%. It's impossible! I'm on the verge of uninstalling it, unless you can throw the light of experience upon it.

That's the one I'm using....I just tried it today and it works for me, on .mp4 files anyway, I haven't tried anything else yet.
