Feldenkrais and my left shoulder

I tried a Feldenkrais mp3 today. It was an introductory level one, and I enjoyed the feeling of getting to know my body better. I'm not sure how it may have helped me. But it was a nice relaxing, almost meditative thing to do, which can't be a bad thing!

It has made me even more aware of how horribly my left shoulder is tensed. I know this in my head, but most of the time I don't feel it day to day, and even when I do feel it, I'm not sure that what I do to try & drop it is even slightly effective in the long term- well clearly it's not. It probably needs me to do weird stretches. It feels like it needs two strong men to pull my shoulder into the right position All. The. Time. Until my shoulder learns what it *should* feel like.

I don't know why it's my left shoulder that's so tensed. The right is so much free-er. I used to think it was a handbag shoulder overuse issue, but I'm much better these days about using my right shoulder for my bags, not the left, and if anything it's worse now than it's been in the past.

I have the same problem with my left shoulder too - I really notice it when doing tribal, as I can see I dont' have the same range of movement. I switched to a rucksack for work to try and correct the handbag issue, but it doesn't seem to have done much.

Depending on which area of your shoulder is tense, is there any chance that you're tilting your head to one side when you sit or read for a long time? Heads are generally heavier than handbags! Artemisia_danst is right though, get it checked out :)

my mom had pains in her shoulder and had a tissue/soft bone issue that she had to take nedication for. not to scare you... but if you have been having this for a while and it hurts... better safe!

It doesn't hurt at all, and it doesn't interfere with my dancing. It's not dangerous, it's just one of those body imbalances/assymmetries.

What else is going on in your back?

Masseuse reckons my sometimes-off left shoulder is related to my pelvis. My left hip often migrates backwards for some reason, so I need to remember to twist it forwards to stop this happening - and it's my right hip that will invariably be the one that aches, or where I had the sciatica.
