Tuesday - Shopping and shows - continued

So there we were in Maadi, on the Memphis...

The Memphis

The boat's pretty, and the restaurant is quite intimate. The boat filled up with Chinese day-trippers (who bus in from places like Sharm el Sheikh and Hurgada, and this is their evening meal). There was an Egyptian family too, and us.

As ever, Kay ensured we were on a table close to the front, and got a good view. The dancer was Luna, who I'd met at JoY last time. I really wanted to see her dancing, because I'd enjoyed her then, and I do like her style. She's got the right mix of Egyptian feeling and American technique.

What was lovely was that as soon as Luna got on the boat she came up to give me a big hug!

The show was fun. To kick off there was a singer. As with all the boat singers, the song playlist consisted of western songs, with a lean towards the cheese. But we requested some Arabic music and lo and behold, they started playing Akteb Aleik- our tune! Well that immediately meant getting up and boogying, and of COURSE, singing along! That flummoxed both the singer and the keyboard player.

Then Luna came on, and I think she was in fine form! I loved her dancing, and her costume included two elements of perfection for me- black and white and flowers! She asked if we had any requests, and we asked for Ismaounni, which I've seen her dance before, and she's taught a workshop on, and I *loved*! My camera is terrible at indoor photos, and with the speed that a dancer moves, it's hard for it to take decent dancer photos, but here's Luna:

Then it was tannoura time. It was the tannoura dancer from the UK Farha tours some years ago. He's funny and I somehow ended up holding the Tannoura Baby! Trust me, that's about as maternal as I get! For once, the blurriness of my camera was put to good effect- here is the Electric Light Tannoura!

Electric Tannoura!

Luna's second set was a melaya, all in cute cute pink! She got several of our party up to dance with her, I'm not sure what the Chinese daytrippers thought of that!

When the show was over, she came to say hi to all of us. And we returned to our hotel.

But the night was still young, and some of us were booked to go to another show... (To be continued!)

Another comment of appreciation for the electric tanoura shot!

Is Luna's meleya dress sheer in the midriff? Or is that just the lighting?

Just the lighting, I'm afraid. A sheer midriff iskanderia would be cute as anything!
