I love it when a plan comes together...

When I say "plan", I mean "choreography".

I've been working on the new choreo for my Improver/Intermediate students over the summer. As usual, I was working with ideas alone, because until the class starts back, I've got no bodies with which to test my ideas. So until I see them actually doing it, I don't know if the ideas in my head will actually work or not. It's all too easy to get things wrong.

So tonight, I started them on Ahwak, the new routine, and we started on the intro and first couple of verses, which are quite challenging, I think. I prefaced it by saying that if it didn't work, we could change it, and it's not set in stone. Then they did it, and it's PERFECT!!! And I think they like it! They've totally taken it on board, and are already creating their own ways of thinking about it, which I love! One was saying it makes her think she's Snow White, with a little bird on her finger, singing to her! And another was saying it makes her feel like a film star! That's so exciting for me, to see them take my ideas and totally run with them.

I'm going to take a small sliver of credit for how creatively my students are thinking in relation to their dancing, now, because I do believe that I've been instrumental in leading them in that direction, with all the work we were doing last year, getting them to think about interpretation, storylines and subtexts, in their Improv work. I honestly believe that has done a lot to free up their ideas, so yay me, for encouraging them in that direction, but more importantly, yay them for taking it all on board and actually using it.

And I've got a great class of Beginners too. They worked really hard and were doing brilliantly!

So all round I'm a very happy teacher tonight.
